Going Green 2

We interrupt this Pirate Marathon for a special news post on Going Green. This post is a follow up to the last one I did a few months ago. Now I’m going to stop writing like a news person would talk, mainly because it would get annoying. I recently went to a recycling meet (hosted by my grandfather)?and was shocked at how many people weren’t there. That may be do to the fact that there was a football game that day though. But I would think that this planet means more to them than a football game! But then again, you can never tell. Anyway, I?am here to spread the news about Going Green. In this paragraph you will learn what the benefits are of Going Green, and what may happen to our planet in the next hundred years.

Now, what brought me back to Going Green was two things. One, that meet and how few people they had. And before I go onto the second reason, I want to say that I am deeply disappointed that so few people showed up. I don’t really care if there was a football game that day. If we continue like this, it is very possible that there won’t be any more football. In this article by Science Fair (at http://blogs.usatoday.com/sciencefair/2009/10/report-warns-of-energy-pollution-dangers.html) say that “Energy pollution prematurely kills at least 18,000 people every year and costs $120 billion in unaccounted damages nationwide.” They also say that “Coal use for electricity — with 10% of the dirtiest plants responsible for 43% of the costs — account for about $62 billion of yearly damages alone.” Now isn’t that shocking, 18,000 people every year die of energy pollution. And coal use for electricity has amounted to $62 billion of yearly damage. This might be a wake up call for you people who dismiss pollution. And this is only two sentences! Imagine how much damage they could report in hundreds of sentences like these!? And these people have even more to say, just read on! They say that “Depending on how much economists “discount” future environmental damages, U.S. greenhouse gas emissions of about 7,000 million metric tons a year, cause from $7 billion to $700 billion in unaccounted costs, suggests the study.” And the number?two is the?book “The House of Power” in the Atherton series by Patrick Carman. The Earth became so polluted by the year 2105 that you couldn’t go outside! I will explain more of the book when I do a post on it. ?Now I think we need to learn about the risks of air pollution and global warming.

The people of USA Today say that air pollution can increase the risk of heart attack and can stunt lung growth. There are many other dangers, but none of these are very prone to happening. These all have a small chance of happening, but it’s better to be on the safe side. I think a more pressing matter is global warming. The people at http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474976925383 have ten dangers of global warming, just to name a few. 1. Flooding. 2. Water Shortage. 3. Famine and disease. 4. Migration and Refugees. 5. Collapse of the Financial System. 6. Economic Collapse. 7. War and civil unrest. 8. Pollution. 9. Atmospheric Tipping Points. 10. Panic. These are all immediate threats, and they are happening. The site has paragraphs on each danger, and I urge you to go and read them. What does this have to do with Going Green? Read on to find out.

Going green can prevent many of these. I know you have all heard most of these, but you need to hear them again. Going Green can mean using?alternate energy sources, which will prevent the use of fossil fuels. Which also means no collapse of the financial system or the economy, because we won’t have to drill in foreign countries. That will also prevent pollution, which can prevent flooding and migration and refugees of animals in turn. That means that the animals won’t bring famine and disease, which means less dead people. And last, this will calm a lot of protesters. That means that no more war and civil unrest. And no more panic. And that was just by finding alternate energy sources! Imagine what would happen if we went totally green! I can’t go green for all of?you, youhave to ?do it yourselves. If we can do this, it will be one of the best things we have ever done. As Neil Armstrong said, “One small step for man, one giant step for mankind.”
